Lubbock Police have made an arrest in connection to a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred early Tuesday morning.

Jogger Matthew Valadez was struck and killed on his morning run at around 6 a.m. near the 2000 block Iola Avenue on July 15. Police were initially searching for a 2000-2001 Nissan Xterra of unknown color.

According to Lubbock Police, A Crime Line tip led investigators down a path that ended with the arrest of 27-year-old Maria Isabel Martinez. With location information supplied in the tip, investigators found the suspected vehicle and were able to match it with evidence found at the scene.

Investigators subsequently obtained an arrest warrant for Martinez. Martinez was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center with no information on potential bond and release.
