Dunlap said that it is not just Cargill employees that would be affected, but other businesses in Plainview and other surrounding communities would feel the effects of the plant’s closure. He remarked that the plant’s closure was something the city knew could happen, but hoped never would actually happen.
Dunlap also said other meat processing plants in the area have started reaching out to the plant’s employees in the Plainview Daily Herald. While he would prefer to see those employees remain in Plainview, he is grateful for the offers and the support of the plants.
