In America, school attendance for children is mandatory, and the parents can face heavy consequences if they do not see to it that their child attends one form or another of education.

This week it has been reported by CBS Chicago that St. Viator High School will be collecting hair samples from students for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

However you feel about drugs an alcohol aside we have to consider: Citizens (regadless of age) merely be being alive and of a certain age are required to go to a school and at the school they are required to submit to drug testing.

There are several constitutional amendments being violated here.

I have heard the argument that to work you are required to submit to a drug test, but it’s not the same. If I am offered a job and my boss demands a drug test, I have the choice to tell him to shove sand and walk out to find a job that will not violate my rights in that way.

Children in a public school without school choice have no such ability.

While, luckily, St. Vaitor is a private school and any parent that does not with for their child to be subject to such overreach can pull their child out, what happens if the public schools follow suit?

Well, if you don’t have the finances to put your child in alternate education from the public school then you will be forced to watch your child be violated, and likely prosecuted and their constitutional rights trampled upon.

That is, unless you as a parent are given the right to choose which school your child attends. Schools that empty when they violate student rights will change their policies or close.

Public schools as they are now feel they have a right to your child no matter the abuses or failure to learn.

And I can’t help but mention, if your child grows up in a required government indoctrination camp where they are taught for 18 years that the government is only trampling on their rights for their benefit, is there any surprise when your child grows up to be a socialist?
