One Dead After Collision Between Vehicle and Electric Wheelchair in Lubbock

One man is dead after being hit by a car at 48th Street and Slide Road Sunday night.

Forty-seven year-old Louis Barber was reportedly crossing Slide in an electric wheelchair. He was hit by 28-year-old motorist Kyle Girgus around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Barber was reportedly not using a crosswalk and failed to yield right-of-way to Girgus.

Barber was thrown from his wheelchair. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Girgus has not been charged with any violations.

Lubbock Police are still investigating the incident.
