One Dead, 20 Injured in Wrecks During Dust Storm Near Lubbock

One person is dead and 20 injured following a series of wrecks during a dust storm.
The wrecks occurred along a two mile stretch of Interstate 27 just north of New Deal around 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.
High wind caused blowing dust, which reduced visibility to nearly zero in the area.
The wrecks involved 23 vehicles.
Due to the wind and poor visibility, emergency crews had difficulty getting to the wreck scenes.
A sizable mass-casualty bus arrived on the scene to take the injured to area hospitals.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, I-27 remains blocked off just north of New Deal. Highway 84 in Garza County between Post and Lubbock has been closed until visibility conditions improve.
