Here are just a few things in Chad’s Pile that you will hear on Lubbock’s First News this morning. Give Chad your feedback on the steaming topics.

1. Dumb Juror (link)

Shouldn't you just know that while serving as a juror, you shouldn't ask the defendant to be your friend on Facebook? Apparently, one Tarrant County man did not.

Court records show 22-year-old Jonathan Hudson on July 19 was removed from the jury in a Tarrant County civil case. The trial, over a 2008 car wreck, proceeded with 11 jurors.

Hudson last week pleaded guilty to four counts of contempt and has been ordered to serve two days of community service.

Texas recently added specific language to jury instructions that bans jurors from discussing the case on social networking sites. Hudson had received those instructions.

Idiot.

2. City of Lubbock employees surfing for porn (link)

Speaking of morons...

Six City of Lubbock employee's have been accused of surfing for porn at work. Again, shouldn't one know better? From KFYO News:

During an inspection of internet logs, the City of Lubbock discovered that the computers and login ID’s of six employees were used to view indecent or obscene material.

The City of Lubbock’s employee policy states that “indecent or obscene material shall not be viewed or distributed.” It goes on to state that individual passwords shall not be shared, and the authorized user is responsible for actions done on their own account.

According to a press release from the City, six employees were implicated in the incidents. Five chose to resign or retire, and one employee is disputing the findings.

The City of Lubbock says that no City staff will be available for interviews due to the investigation.

Yeah, you bet we will talk about this on the show. Personally, I'd like to know who these employees are.

3. Water rates

Water rates might go up again, but the question is why? Councilman Paul Beane recently said on Lubbock's First News that the Lake Alan Henry pipeline is paid for and that the extra money brought in because of water rates flows into the general fund. Remember, elected officials have stated in the past that water rates are scheduled to increase because of the pipeline. Is that true? Doesn't look like it. Beane said he will be looking into the matter and it seems as though he doesn't like what the council is doing either. If the pipeline is paid for, it's time to reduce the water rates. If the council chooses to bring a tax increase to the voters, it's their choice. It's time for our local government to be honest.
