The Red Raiders draw to .500 on the season with a 1-0 win over the University of New Mexico.

Senior Janine Beckie shot one into the goal in the 12th minute off of a Caity Heap pass. This was the 44th goal in the esteemed career of Beckie, Texas Tech's all-time scoring leader.

Three freshman started in the lineup Sunday and all nine freshman who made the trip to the Lobo invitational saw minutes against both USC and UNM.

“This team will rise or fall with our seniors,” said Stone. “But it was great to get so many freshman their first college minutes this weekend. Brooke Denesik and Cassie Boren were particularly good and Carly Wickenhouser was a beast for us on Friday night against one of the best team’s in the country.”

The win also brings the Red Raiders record in season opening weekend matches to 15-3-0 in the past 11 seasons, including 14 shutouts.

Stone and the Red Raiders will kick it in their next match 7 p.m. Friday, August 28, for a match against Georgia at the John Walker Soccer Complex.
