A notable comedic icon will give the keynote speech at an event in late April for a Texas Tech program banquet.

Bill Cosby will deliver the keynote speech during the Lauro Cavazos and Ophelia Powell-Malone Mentoring Program annual banquet.

The program, also known as Mentor Tech, will hold the annual banquet at 7 p.m. April 22nd at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Banquet Hall.

Mentor Tech seeks to enhance the quality of the educational experience of students from underrepresented populations through programs, services, advocacy, and campus and community involvement.

They pair students with faculty and staff members to help them in their academic, social, and cultural adjustments to Texas Tech University.

Cosby has starred in numerous television shows and movies, as well as writing his own shows and books.

He has received Kennedy Center Honors, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and the Marian Anderson Award.

Tickets for the banquet are $125 each or $140 each for VIP seating. Tables of eight cost $1,000 and $1500 for VIP.
