A new West Texas Mesonet site will be dedicated this November; this is the second site in Snyder and the first built in conjunction with Western Texas College.

The West Texas Mesonet is an independent entity working with Texas Tech’s National Wind Institute and the Atmospheric Science Group that reports on numerous meteorological criterions by establishing remote weather stations. Currently, the Mesonet has 93 remote stations in 63 counties across much of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico.

The Mesonet website states their goal is to, “provide accurate meteorological data for distribution to a variety of facets in our region including operational meteorology, agriculture and farming, research, and media. We take pride in providing updated, real-time data on this site to serve your specific interests.”

The new Snyder station is already online and feeding date into the Mesonet, but a ribbon holding will commemorate the successful collaboration with Western Texas College Thursday, November 12, beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Western Texas College Research Park located at 2170 FM 2763, Snyder, Texas.
