A new United Market Street location is expected to open before the holiday season this year.

The new store, located at the southwest corner of 19th Street and Quaker Avenue, is likely to open in time for the Thanksgiving rush.

“This store will be a next-generation store for our Lubbock guests, with a unique look and feel among our Market Street locations – including our Dallas-Fort Worth stores,” said Wes Jackson, chief merchandising officer for United Supermarkets. “We’re doing a lot of things to create destination points throughout the store, so that guests will feel like they are moving from one department to another as they shop.”

The more-than 71,000 square foot store will be the largest outside of the DFW Metroplex, and will include a 3,100 square-foot United Express convenience store and a 12-car fuel station. The United Express store is expected to open in late summer or early fall.

The store, which will cost more than $14 million to construct, is expected to employ around 400 people.

Also offered at the new store will include an expanded selection of specialty, natural, and organic offerings, the largest full-service meat/seafood department of any Market Street location, the largest beer and wine department of any West Texas locations, including a walk-in beer vault, and an expanded offering of bulk foods, pet, baby, and seasonal sections.

The contractor for the store is Ridgemont Commercial Construction of Irving, chosen from four bidders with supermarket construction experience, and many local subcontractors will be used during the process.
