A new agriculture scholarship has been established in the area.

The Jim and Ramona Davis Honorary Ag Products Inc. Scholarship has been introduced to help assist students at South Plains College.

The $10,000 endowment fund to the SPC Foundation was created by Ronny and Suanne Alexander of Levelland. The scholarship will help a high school graduate from Hockley County who majors in an agriculture-related field.

The Alexanders chose to participate in the special endowment challenge, which is funded as part of a grant the college has received from the U.S. Department of Education Strengthening Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program. Their contribution will be matched with Title V grant funds, doubling the endowment to $20,000.

The scholarship was established to honor Suanne’s parents, Jim and Ramona Davis.

“Our boys attended South Plains College, and they received scholarships,” said Suanne Alexander. “It was a great blessing for us and now we are able to give back that same blessing to someone else through this scholarship.”

Ronny Alexander is a member of the South Plains College Board of Regents.
