New Principal to Join Mackenzie Middle School in Lubbock

Wednesday, December 10, the Lubbock Independent School District board of trustees named John Martinez the new principal of Mackenzie Middle School.

Most recently, Martinez served as principal of the Academy of Technology, Engineering, Math and Science in Abilene, which he founded in 2009.

Martinez received his bachelor’s degree from McMurry University and his master’s degree from Angelo State University. According to LISD, he served in the United States Air Force and previously worked in administration in both Abilene and Merkel ISD.

Martinez will assume his duties in January when current Mackenzie Principal Karen Bayer steps down.
