New Details in Lubbock ATM Muggings
Additional details on a string of muggings taking place at the Wells Fargo locations in Lubbock have been released, including that one was faked.
82nd and Vicksburg:
Lubbock police announced Wednesday afternoon, December 23, that reports of a mugging, abduction and abuse were faked.
Briana Rainwater, 25, told police she was abducted by two men from the Wells Fargo at 82nd and Vicksburg and taken to a nearby playa lake where she was assaulted and robbed.
Investigators, believing Rainwater faked her report, obtained a warrant and arrested her Wednesday.
Rainwater has been booked into the Lubbock County Jail on multiple charges including theft between $2500 and $30,000. An investigation is ongoing and more details are not yet available.
50th and Quaker:
Monday night, December 21, around 11 p.m. a man with a handgun approached a car making a deposit at the Wells Fargo ATM and stole that person’s belongings at gunpoint.
Then a witness to the mugging purposefully hit the suspect with their car, but the suspect was able to flee the scene before officers arrived, according to Lubbock police.
The suspect is described as a black male who may be limping.
