Lubbock citizens and businesses are invited to go “Red for Women” on National Wear Red Day slated for February 1.

The Lubbock Division of the American Heart Association invites the participation to raise awareness of heart disease in women.

The annual event is part of the national campaign Go Red for Women sponsored by the AHA to promote healthy lifestyles for women and to help wipe out heart disease.

The event is sponsored nationally by Macy’s and Merck with local support from Covenant Health Systems.

Additionally, community leaders are encouraged to keep Friday, April 18 on their calendars for the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon.

The program will feature free health screening for women in the community and speaker Emory Austin, followed by a fashion show of heart disease survivors wearing clothes from local retailers.

Proceeds from the event will benefit heart disease research, educational materials, and community programs for women.
