A motorcycle rider from Idalou was fatally injured early today in a collision with a truck along South Loop 289 in Lubbock.

The motorcycle ran into the rear of a Toyota pickup and was sent skidding some 200 feet. Police identified the victim as 34-year-old Jason Smart.

Officers blocked off the Loop from the Spur 327 exit to Slide Road for some  time while investigating the accident, which happened around 2:30 a.m. Smart died later at a hospital.

Earlier last night, a mo-ped was hit by at car on 4th Street at Flint Avenue.  Police said the car turned into the mo-ped ridden by Christopher Rodriquez just before 8 p.m.

Rodriquez suffered what were described as serious injuries.
