On Friday's edition of Lubbock's First News, Jerry Curerton from Mrs. Baird's Bread talked with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about their Teacher on the Rise program.

Mrs. Baird's Teacher on the Rise program was designed to recognize and reward excellent local teachers. Curuerton said that many people don't realize just how hard these teachers work every day, and that this program not only honors their hard work, but also helps them out with a cash prize.

Students can nominate their favorite teacher by going online and writing a short essay on why their teacher deserve recognition. Each month, the winning teachers will receive a prize package worth $200, and the student who nominates the winning teacher will receive a $50 Visa gift card. This month's Teacher on the Rise drawing of the year will take place next week, and the deadline to register is midnight Sunday, September 22nd.
