The first group of Proposition 1 projects have been awarded with more than $8 million awarded for maintenance to US Highway 84 in Lubbock County.

The Texas Department of Transportation announced 9 projects were awarded in 7 of the state’s districts to the tune of more than $52 million. Texas voters approved Proposition 1 last November making $17.4 billion available for transportation projects throughout the state.

Taylor County will receive nearly $7 million to alleviate congestion to State Highway 351, which runs through Abilene.

Of the nine projects, Archer County will receive the most funding, more than $10 million, to be used for general maintenance.

The Texas Department of Transportation said Proposition 1 will fund 200 projects resulting in more than 800 miles of rehabilitated highways and more than 400 miles of new highway lanes.
