Thursday on Lubbock's First News, Tom and Laura spoke with Judy Cooper, from Mission Lubbock, about the Coats and Cans drive being hosted at Family Powersports.

Coats and Cans is an effort to gather donations of clothing and non-perishable food items. Donations will be accepted at Family Powersports, open from 9 am to 5 pm, through Saturday. Clothing donations will be cleaned by Uni-First, then taken to Mission Lubbock who will donate them to families in need. Food donations will be taken to the South Plains Food Bank for distribution. The donation drive is a collaborative effort of radio stations, Family Powersports, Uni-First, Kings Highway, and Ashley Furniture.

Mission Lubbock also has a program to provide kids in school with food. Cooper said, "We started out last year with about 45 kids... It just grew and grew. This year we started off the year with 98 kids. Since we are a ministry, god said 'loaves and fishes.' So far, people are dropping off food and food is coming out of places I have never expected." Other donations of clothing, furniture, and anything else that will help for winter will be taken at Mission Lubbock.
