On the Thursday edition of Lubbock's First News, Midland County Sheriff Gary Painter spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.

Sheriff Painter, in a recent interview that has gone viral in the internet, spoke of his concerns about border security and terrorists coming into the United States via the border with Mexico.

In addition to Midland County, Painter's extensive experience in West Texas and the border areas includes work in the El Paso, Van Horn, Marfa, and Presidio areas.

There are areas down on the border where there is no water in the river called the Rio Grande, and people can walk across, at will, there's no fence up and there's nothing to stop them. If they happen to run into some border patrol, then yeah, they're going to get challenged and they're going to get sent back but if they work it just right and they watch what's going on, they can come through without a problem.", Painter said.

He continued, "My concern is  the border is open, it is wide open. And there's not enough personnel working the border to stem the flow of people coming across."

"Right now, in the area on the ranches and the land that is on this side of the river, they have found ... dress that people of Arabic descent coming from Muslim countries wear. They have found the Korans in the dirt, which is a strong indicator, all kinds of stuff which is a strong indicator that people other than Mexican are coming across the border that are of Muslim descent. And without question, they are in this country."

Sheriff Painter corrected the wording of his quote by CNN which was not exactly accurate in wording, but was quite correct in point.

“What needs to happen is that there needs to be enough bombs dropped on them, that every time they hear a jet (engine or a) propeller (from an aircraft) they urinate themselves down both legs,”

“If they rear their ugly head, we’ll send them to hell", said Painter.

Sheriff Painter went on to talk about training and exercises held by law enforcement in the Permian Basin to continue to be prepared for terrorist attack disasters.
