A motorcycle accident early Sunday morning (March 19) claimed one life.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, 45-year-old Michael Castellano (pictured above) collided with the concrete median while traveling on Avenue Q. Police said Castellano was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident.

"Castellano was not wearing a helmet, and investigators are trying to determine if speed was a factor," said Tiffany Pelt, Lubbock Police Department public information officer.

Pelt told KFYO News that a witness told police they saw Castellano trying to turn west onto the Marsha Sharp Freeway access road. It was during this that he struck the median and crashed.

Friends of Castellano, who's originally from Levelland, mourned on his Facebook page.
