Monday on Lubbock's First News, Debra Burton talked about running for the position of Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace.

When the filing deadline was extended in December after Jean Anne Stratton withdrew last minute, four more candidates filed to run against Margaret Anne Brown. Brown is the daughter of Stratton. Burton has worked as a Deputy Sheriff for 25 years. Burton says she has experience with budgeting, management, and scheduling. She stated a knowledge of the aspects of that system, including inmate charges and the courts, and said she has "maintained a good working relationship with all entities" encountered.

Burton said, "After 25 years I've finally reached a point where my job is not just to keep myself going and my children going... I can sit back now and enjoy the opportunity to further my criminal justice career."
