Mayor Glen Robertson Discusses City Council Voting Down Bond Election Proposal (Audio)
Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson visited with Lubbock's First News featuring Tom Collins and Laura Mac recapping Thursday night's Lubbock City Council Meeting.
During the meeting the Council voted 4-2 to reject a proposed bond election.
"Our debt is $1.15 billion, we just had to raise property value taxes 2.2 cents, there is going to be a slight increase in water rates, and electric rates. I think we are hitting the tax payers with all we can hit them with," said Robertson. "I think it is not responsible to ask the tax payers to vote on (items) especially routine maintenance items."
Robertson also discussed how funding for a new Lubbock Police Department was separate from the proposed bond election package.
Robertson also spent a good portion of his time talking about street maintenance issues and city-wide water restriction issues.
