Earlier this week, Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope held his first State of the City Address. The event, sponsored by the Lubbock Apartment Association, was held at the Lubbock Civic Center.

Mayor Pope described the state of the city as "great." He said 2016 was a great year and that the city is poised for even more long-term growth.

In some of the facts and figures cited by Mayor Pope, he pegged Lubbock's population growth rate at 1-2 percent annually and 9 percent since 2010.

Mayor Pope also discussed public works, economic growth, the effects Texas Tech, Lubbock Christian University and the medical industry have on the city, and the Citizens Tower project.

Concerning Citizens Tower, which will become the new City Hall, Mayor Pope said the goal is to complete the whole-scale renovation on-time and on budget.
