GOP political strategist Matt Mackowiak joined The Chad Hasty Show on Monday to talk about current events in both Texas and national politics.

Mackowiak and Hasty discussed Governor Greg Abbott's upcoming State of the State speech, which will be his first since taking the Texas Governor seat.

Mackowiak expects Governor Abbott to speak about transportation and roads, as well as specifics on border security, education and taxes, specifically business taxes.

Mackowiak also talked about the presidential election of 2016, some of the candidates and their chances, including Rick Perry, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush.

On Senator Cruz's chances for getting the GOP nomination, Mackowiak said,

I would not count him out completely, he has a chance to be a real threat here, particularly in the early states of Iowa and South Carolina.

When asked about whether Rick Perry actually has a shot at the nomination, Mackowiak responded, "I don't think it's crazy no." Mackowiak continued, "I also think that he's a little bit under the RADAR. Having run before, he's not the flashy new toy, shiny new object. He is someone who's run before, who people know, there's good and bad. But he's not going to get the same level I think of attention and inspection that a lot of these other camps are going to get."
