Mary Jane Buerkle with the Plains Cotton Growers discussed the 2014 cotton crop and Christmas gift ideas with Lubbock's First News' Tom Collins and Laura Mac.

Buerkle said the current crop harvest is between 70-75 percent done.

She said under normal conditions, the harvest is normally closer to finished by this date, but late rains and the current humidity, which prevent producers from running their cotton strippers, have pushed the harvest back this year.

Buerkle also talked about the ultra-competitive global market being the main reason for the denim plant in Littlefield closing after the first of the year and suggested several holiday gift-giving ideas that are beneficial to the local economy.
