One person is dead and at least three wounded following a shooting in front of a Beaumont courthouse.

An officer on the scene said that 41-year-old Bartholomew Granger was going to court with family Wednesday morning, and opened fire around 11 a.m.

Granger reportedly left the courthouse and went to his truck, then began firing. A nearby detective returned fire, and Granger went to his truck and ran over one of the people that he had shot as he made his escape.

The now-wounded Granger took hostages at a business about 3 blocks away before surrendering to police.
