Around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, September 17, the Lubbock Sheriff’s Office responded to the call of an assault in the 1500 block of County Road 6900.

Eyewitnesses told police their 67-year-old neighbor was beaten with a pipe or a stick by an unknown male suspect. The victim of the assault said the man walked up to him demanding money and turned violent when the elderly man refused his demands.

While EMS worked on the victim, who was later transported to UMC with serious but not life threatening injuries, panic alarms sounded in a nearby building and a person of the same description was reported to have broken into another residence.

The SWAT Team was then dispatched to apprehend the suspect, but no one was in the building as previously believed. A ground search ensued before a call came in from Hockley County with the location of a suspect matching the same description breaking into a residence in the 6900 block of Quail Road.

After discovering evidence on the suspect from both crime scenes, police made an arrest, detaining Jordan Burrell (19) and booking him in to the Lubbock County Jail.
