Governor Rick Perry has appointed a Lubbockite to the Texas Medical Board.

Associate Dean of Graduate Medical education and Resident Affairs at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Surendra Varma has been appointed to the board for a term set to expire in April, 2019.

The Texas Medical Board is responsible for protecting and enhancing the public’s health safety and welfare through the maintenance of strict standards and regulations concerning medical practitioners.

Varma received his medical degree from King George’s Medical University in India and his pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology fellowships at Harvard Medical School.

Along with his position at Texas Tech, Varma has served in an impressive number of medical societies and associations including serving as the president of the Texas Pediatric Society and the Lubbock, Crosby and Garza County Medical societies.
