Lubbock Teacher Recognized as Innovator of the Year

A Lubbock ISD teacher is being recognized with a statewide award. The Texas Classroom Teachers Association has named Coronado High School special education teacher Gail Douglas their 2011-2012 Innovator of the Year.
Douglas was nominated for the award by the Lubbock Classroom Teachers Association, an affiliate of the statewide organization. The Lubbock CTA praised her work in the classroom, saying “Her students learn life skills as well as job skills and leave high school independent, proud and full of self esteem.” She was credited by judges for “her creative and determined efforts to make her students part of the school environment in every way,” and for “taking Innovator of the Year to a whole new level when working with her special needs high school students.”
She has taught at Coronado for the past 16 years and is a Texas Tech graduate. She will be honored along with other award winners Febuary 9th in Houston.
