A road closure along South Loop 289 is scheduled as part of the investigation of a fatal collision.

The main lanes of the South Loop near University Avenue will be closed from the hours of 4:00 a.m. until 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 4th.

Lubbock Police Department investigators will recreate the Friday afternoon wreck, which resulted in the death of 63-year-old Maricela Hinojosa.

24-year-old Joe Angel Vela lost control of his pickup truck between Interstate 27 and University Avenue on the South Loop, and flipped it into oncoming traffic.

East and westbound traffic will be diverted from the roadway, and the I-27 to Loop 289 westbound flyover will be closed to all traffic as well. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes.
