Lubbock police are searching for the person or persons responsible for a drive-by shooting that injured two people. A home in the 2200 block of 87th street in southeast Lubbock was shot at on June 26 by unknown assailants.

A 12-year-old girl was reportedly shot in the back while trying to protect her 8-month-old nephew, who was also injured. Fortunately, three other children in the house and two adults were not injured.

The 12-year-old girl remains in critical condition. The girl’s mother, who was already in the hospital fighting a serious disease, died on Monday, July 2, just before Independence Day.

A GoFundMe account that was set up to support the family and raised over $2,000 has since been closed. Investigators are still looking for leads in the case. If you have any information, call the Crime Line at 741-1000.
