Lubbock Police say that a rumor that has gained traction in different social media outlets is currently unfounded.

Captain Jon Caspell with the Lubbock Police Department issued a press release Wednesday afternoon, saying that the LPD has received numerous calls in reference to rumors regarding door-to-door book sales.

According to these social media rumors, some believe that these sales people are targeting households with children and may attempt to kidnap children, and are calling LPD.

Caspell said “The LPD has received no credible information or evidence that these persons are targeting children, or any calls of legitimate attempted kidnappings regarding these sales persons. These internet social media rumors appear to be merely that: rumors.”

Police say that if they receive any credible information regarding legitimate threats of attempted kidnappings, the information will be released. As of yet, they have not received such information.
