A wreck early Monday morning sends a Lubbock police officer to the hospital.

Two officers responded to an incident at 19th Street and Memphis Avenue around 1:40 a.m. Monday, where a car had hit a curb, and another person stopped to help.

A police cruiser was parked on 19th Street directing traffic around the area, when an oncoming van crashed into the cruiser.

The officer was talking to a woman at the scene in front of the cruiser, when he saw the incident occurring, and pushed the woman out of the way of the car.

The officer was hit, and taken to a hospital for treatment. He was released around 5 a.m. The woman only suffered scrapes and bruises from falling to the ground.

Police say that the driver of the van may be charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Intoxication Assault.
