A longtime Lubbock Police Department administrator is retiring.

Assistant Chief Thomas Esparza is retiring from the LPD following 32 years of service, after beginning in September of 1979 with the Patrol Division.

Esparza served in Investigations, Administration, and the Academy as he was promoted through the ranks. He reached the rank of Assistant Chief in January 2004, retiring in the Patrol Division.

Captain Jerry Brewer will be promoted to Assistant Chief, and will be assigned to the Patrol Division. Brewer has been with the LPD for 23 years.
