Lubbock Music Festival 2012 Showcasing Local Creativity

Matt Saed, Facebook

Music aficionados will not want to miss out on the Lubbock Music Festival 2012, which is running through Saturday. A variety of musical acts will showcase styles ranging from country to classical, providing listeners with an abundance of choices.

The festival is being underwritten by the non-profit organization Civic Lubbock, Inc. and is being produced by Broadway Festivals, Inc. and Caldwell Entertainment. Matt Saed, bass player and vocalist with The Garzas, which will be performing at 6pm on Friday, had this to say about the event:

I think the music festival is a great thing because there is a surprising amount of diverse talent in this town and many people have never heard about most of it.  The number of gifted musicians in the Lubbock and West Texas area is equal or greater to the other much larger metro areas, and we have to support it to keep it here.  Music is a famous part of Lubbock’s history, and we need to make sure that music remains a vital part of Lubbock’s present, and future as well.

The event calls attention to the cultural atmosphere of Lubbock which has, perhaps counter-intuitively, fostered a thriving music and arts community. It has become somewhat of a hobby for residents to bemoan the boring flat landscape, or point out the lack of “things to do” in Lubbock, yet the Llano Estacado has produced such musical legends as Buddy Holly and Mary Jeanne van Appledorn.
