On Friday's edition of Lubbock's First News Karen Robertson, wife of Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson, spoke with Tom Collins and Laura Mac about the Mayor's condition after undergoing open heart surgery.

On Tuesday night, Mayor Robertson was admitted to Covenant Medical Center and underwent heart bypass surgery. According to Mrs. Robertson, Glen had not been feeling well for several days and went to a cardiologist, where it was discovered that he had suffered a heart attack.

"So [Glen] goes over to Covenant and they do an angiogram, and his middle son and I were just sitting out in the waiting room, waiting for them to come out and say 'Hey, we just did a stint, he's going to be here overnight, and he's going to go home tomorrow.' [The doctor] came out and he goes, 'Well, he's got severe blockage in three of his arteries. He's got 100%, 90 and 80. We're fixing to do open heart surgery."

Mrs. Robertson said that although Glen is still in ICU at the moment, he is recovering well and is getting "back to his old self." She also said she was very grateful for all the support and well-wishes they have received from the citizens of Lubbock.

In the meantime, Mayor Pro Tem Karen Gibson will assume the duties of mayor until Robertson has recovered, and will also chair the next city council meeting on Thursday, January 31st.
