A Lubbock man has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault charges related to the beating of a Texas Tech student in 2015.

28-year-old Alfredo Mozart Lopez has been sentenced to 8 years for aggravated assault and 15 years for possession of a controlled substance.

The case started when a 24-year-old TTU student was found with severe head injuries, laying on the ground between two buildings at University Apartments. An arrest warrant stated that his injuries were so severe that a portion of his skull was visible. He was transported to University Medical Center, where he later improved after surgery.

The warrant continued to state a blood trail led officers to a specific apartment at the complex. After collecting more evidence and interviewing people in the area, 21-year-old Brad Obiama Duru, turned himself in. Shortly after, Lopez was also arrested. He was found with cocaine, methamphetamine and marijuana.
