A Lubbock man will spend the next 30 years of his life in prison for the murder of his grandson.

55-year old Clifford Coles plead no contest today for the death of 11-month old Shawn Smith in 2009.

Smith died at the hospital after being rushed there for the injuries. Lubbock Police said that the toddler suffered severe injuries to his head and abdomen.

KAMC 28 reports that Coles was arrested for a similar crime in 1986 for the death of his 1-year old stepson. Coles will be eligible for parole in 15 years.
