[UPDATE] A second person involved in the early Friday morning accident on I-27 has passed away, according to KAMC News.

Mia Brittany Bierra (18), the passenger in a car that was struck by a truck, died at UMC after sustaining life-threatening injuries.

[ORIGINAL STORY] A man died in Lubbock after being struck by a vehicle while he was changing a flat tire.

Just after midnight on Friday, March 25, Lubbock police officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles that occurred on I-27 south.

According to police, 20-year-old Joseph Espinoza had his car in the right lane to fix a flat tire. A pickup truck traveling south struck both Espinoza and his vehicle, which included a passenger, 18-year-old Mia Brittany Bierra.

Both Espinoza and Bierra were taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries. Espinoza succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck and passenger suffered minor injuries.

The Lubbock Police Department Accident Investigation Team is investigating the crash.
