The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees yesterday announced a contract extension for LISD Superintendent Dr. Karen Garza. Dr. Garza's contract will now run until 2015. She joined Lubbock ISD in July 2009.  The president of the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees, James Arnold, praised the work of Dr. Garza, "We recognize the enormous changes the district has gone through in the last 30 months has been stressful on the leadership and teachers. Given what’s around the bend with the new STAAR test, the changes were necessary and it takes determined and strong leadership to do that. We congratulate Dr. Garza on a job well done.”

In other news from yesterday's school board meeting, the 2012-2013 Academic Calendarwas approved by the board. The 2012-2013 school year will start on Monday, August 27, 2012 and end on May 31, 2013. The first semester will end on December 21, 2012, Christmas break will run from December 24- January 4, and the second semester starts on January 8, 2013. More than 1,000 parents, students and teachers responded to an online survey which began in December and offered several calendar options.
