Lubbock Independent School District’s newest elementary campus has opened its doors for the spring 2015 semester.

The new Jayne Ann Miller Elementary, built on the grounds of Mae Murfee Elementary, opened its doors to students on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. The 96,000 square-foot school is the culmination of a bond program set in motion in 2010 to consolidate Murfee and Haynes Elementary School.

Murfee is well-remembered for its outdoor amphitheatre and large library, but Miller features a few specialties including a cafetorium (a cafeteria combined with an auditorium) that has a cloud ceiling, an outdoor learning center and LED lighting outside.

The school has 32 classrooms and can accommodate up to 700 students.

The new campus will be formally dedicated on March 1.
