Lubbock ISD has hired a new police chief.

The Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Jody Scifres at their meeting this morning, who comes to LISD after spending almost 20 years in the Roswell, New Mexico Police Department, where he currently serves as the deputy chief of police.

Scifres is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the School of Police Supervision at the Southwest Law Enforcement Institute.

His predecessor, Mark Hinshaw, resigned from his position last March following an incident at a Depot District bar where, following a heated exchange between Hinshaw and a former girlfriend, police arrived and reportedly found him intoxicated while wearing his badge and carrying his gun.

Scifres will begin the position with Lubbock ISD on July 18th.
