The Texas Classroom Teachers Association (TCTA) earlier today announced that a Lubbock ISD elementary school teacher will become the new District 17 Director for the TCTA Council.

Donna Corbin teaches grades 4 and 5 at Bowie Elementary School in Lubbock ISD.  She will start her two year term as District 17 Director on June 1. Corbin's District 17 includes 20 counties in the South Plains and Panhandle.

A TCTA member for more than 25 years, Corbin is active in the Lubbock Classroom
Teachers Association, where she currently serves as membership chair and faculty representative
and previously served as president (two terms). She is also the past president of the district 17
coordinating council.

The 2012-13 TCTA Council also will include Cristal Isaacks of Levelland, serving as
statewide chair of the Budget committee; Suzanne Garcia McCall, serving as statewide chair of
the Curriculum & Instruction committee; and Dianna Jackson of Cooper, serving as district 17
director.

The TCTA is based in Austin and they state they are the only statewide teachers association that limits active level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.
