Lubbock ISD’s chief academic officer has announced her retirement.

Kelly Trlica, Ed.D., announced her retirement Friday after 35 years in public education.

Trlica had been the assistant superintendent of secondary curriculum, instruction, and assessment for Houston ISD, and left that position to join former Lubbock ISD Superintendent Karen Garza’s leadership team when Garza came to Lubbock in 2009.

Trlica supervises Lubbock ISD schools and all academic services.

Trlica said “My time in LISD has been the highlight of my career in education.”

She continued, saying “My husband Gerald and I have really spent nine years falling in love with Lubbock and its wonderful citizens (five years in the Red Raider football stadium). It is our home now and we look forward to years of continued service to the community.”
