At their meeting this week, the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees approved their general fund budget.

The budget of more than $196,493,000 is a balanced budget, according to a press release from the District.

LISD Superintendent Karen Garza attributed the balanced budget and pay raise for teachers to their long-range financial plan, which was instituted by the District two years ago. Some positions were eliminated within the District, specifically more than 20 percent of the central office workforce in 2011.

The Board also approved the sale of the property and gymnasium of the former Tubbs Elementary School to the City of Lubbock. The use of the area is restricted to that of a park or public area.

The lease of the Larry Combest Community Health and Wellness Center, located on the property of Harwell Elementary School, located in the 4100 block of Avenue D, was expanded, following a $5 million federal grant to the Center for expansion of the clinic.
