Rescue crews were called to a work site near the intersection of North Ave. P and Cesar Chavez Street just before 10 a.m. today (May 18th). A man had fallen into a 15-feet deep trench, landing on his back.

The man was conscious and alert and managed to get pulled out of the trench at around 10:40 a.m. by the LFR Heavy Rescue Team. He was then taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Battalion Chief Steve Holland said “The patient was 15-foot deep inside a trench box here in this construction site. “This is part of the drainage system that they’ve been working on for a number of years.”

In relation to the man's injuries, Holland said, “We don’t think the injuries at this time are significant. His arm was splinted.”
