An annual event for a notable charity will kick off this week.

Members of Lubbock Fire Rescue and the Lubbock Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 972 will kick off the annual Fill the Boot campaign this week.

Lubbock fire fighters have teamed up with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for 60 years to benefit children and adults affected by the muscle disease in the Lubbock area.

The fire fighters will spread out across Lubbock with their boots in hand for the 2014 drive from Thursday, May 15th through Saturday, May 17th.

The group will be collecting donations from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day from Thursday through Saturday at the intersections of 50th and Indiana, Slide and South Loop 289, University and South Loop 289, and locations inside the South Plains Mall.

A ribbon cutting will be held to celebrate the beginning of this year’s event at Fire Station #16 at 114th and Quaker on Wednesday, May 14th. The kick-off will begin at 10:15 a.m.

The Fill the Boot campaign provides funding to MDA’s programs of worldwide research, specialized health care services, and day-to-day support in the area.
