When the commissioners began their budget hearings last week, it seemed likely, almost a sure thing, that there would not be a tax increase. But things changed when Sheriff Kelly Rowe gave his presentation, asking for more personnel, and County Judge Tom Head suggested that commissioners give Rowe the tools he and his personnel needed to do their jobs.

Commissioners have now tentatively approved a tax increase that would cost the owner of a $100,000 home an extra $1.71 a month if commissioners give final approval in September.  Hearings on the proposed tax increase will be held at 10 a.m  on August  22 and 27.  The final vote will take place on September 10.
