Next Monday, February 17, the Lubbock County Republican Party will host a debate for the 19th Congressional District Primary.  The event will be held at the Vintage Township Town Hall, located at 12002 Trafalgar, near 114th and Quaker Avenue, at 7:00pm.

Congressman Randy Neugebauer is being challenged by Dr. Donald May and Chris Winn in the Republican Primary. However, Neugebauer won't be a direct participant in the debate. Instead, he will be represented by staffer Mitch Barnett, who will deliver a brief statement before the start of the debate.  The debate will then take place with Winn and Dr. May answering questions from a moderator and the audience.

Both Dr. May and Winn took issue with Congressman Neugebauer this week for not agreeing to personally participate in the debate.

Winn said on Thursday's edition of the Chad Hasty Show on KFYO, “I think it’s insulting to the people of this community that the person who’s been elected for 12 years has decided not to debate challengers to his position after he has a record, whether it’s his voting record or whether…he’s been ineffective. I would challenge that. I think Congressman Neugebauer has been extremely effective for his own personal interests and for the interests of Washington and Wall Street. it just hasn’t translated into the interests of West Texas.”

Dr. May also spoke out against Neugebauer this week, "The incumbent is not showing up to any of the debates.  We're hoping he shows up because he's going to be in (Lubbock) this day. We don't see him (in district) and now that the debates are going on, we don't see him."

Co-sponsors for this debate are Lubbock Liberty, the Texas Tech University Chapter
of Young Americans for Liberty, and the Tech Law Republicans.
