Lubbock-Con is still a ways away, but they are making all the right steps to plan a really awesome event. This includes getting you, the fans, involved in their Kickstarter campaign.

What's really cool is that thanks to you guys, they are already halfway to their goal! They're looking to raise a little over $2,000 to make this event a reality, and they're already over $1,000.

According to event creator DeNae Griffith, Lubbock-Con is an attempt at bringing a big, comic con-style show to Lubbock's "growing nerd culture."

Griffith, who grew up in Lubbock but moved to Dallas for school, says that the idea started out with her and five friends hanging out in her living room talking about what they wanted out of a convention. One point that they all agreed on was fostering a community.

"What I really want is to build that community I had in Dallas, that they have in other cities, that for whatever reason have passed over Lubbock," says Griffith.

So let's get them the rest of the way there so we can all have an awesome event in 2016.

Plus, the more you donate, the more cool swag you get! Donate today if you can.
